Sylvia Schirmer is a team leader with skills acquired over 25 years in the feature film industry. She has worked as assistant director on numerous films, including 10 as permanent assistant to Rolf von Sydow, and worked for many years with Joseph Vilsmayer. She was also assistant director on the cinema film Die Geschichte vom Brandner Kaspar, 2007.
Since 1983, she has worked as a freelance screenplay writer for feature films and has also made her own films (one of them winning a Belgian film award in 2003).
Sylvia is the mother of two sons, a job which for the last 16 years has inspired some of her films. One of her main feature films deals with the education and upbringing of children. Her areas of special interest are the importance of autonomy and the ability to form relationships and Dr. Emmi Pikler's ideas on motor development in children.
She gained extensive experience in food during the four years she served in a voluntary capacity as chair of Risto Dante e. V., a parent's initiative for school meals. In 2005, the Klenzegymnasium grammar school in Munich recognised her commitment with its "Small lion" award.
Sylvia Schirmer is an exceptionally sunny, open and creative person. She is a highly skilled film and organisational professional. She is completely at home in the cultures of the world, while at the same time remaining deeply rooted in the Bavarian soil of her native Munich.
